Utah Renaissance Festival

Something fun and interesting I thought I'd share:
We went on an awesome fieldtrip!
(I put up nearly this exact some post on our family blog, so if you read that, too,
this is the same thing, just a little bit shorter.)
For the amazing homeschooling price of only $1 each we were able to get into the Utah Renaissnce Festival. It was about 50 miles away, but it was worth the drive for such a small entrance fee.
We watched some real-life jousting by
The Knights of Mayhem. This was the knight we were cheering for.

The kids got to ride this horse for about 30 seconds each. For dinner the boys had hot dogs and chips, Jenna and I had giant turkey legs.

We met Queen Elizabeth.

And a really tall fairy.

And we watched some fighting done by Belegarth Medieval Combat Society.

The kids each got to choose one item to buy. Corey and Randy chose some little plastic daggers, Jenna chose this red umbrella. There were real blacksmiths and armorers there. I saw another little kid who had gotten a real vambrace - I think that would've been a cooler souvenir, but by the time we saw it the boys had already chosen their toys. Plus, they seemed to like their swords more.

Jenna put on in her Snow White dress for the occasion, which was appropriate. Lots of visitors and all of the merchants and performers had on medieval or Renaissance garb and people were calling us "my lady" or "noble sir" and saying "good morrow."

It was great weather and it wasn't too crowded. We didn't stop to see any magic shows or dancers, which would've been fun. Maybe next time.

It would've been better if Dion were there, but he was in school. But hey, for only $1 per person we can go back next weekend with him if we want!
